Through 100% volunteer efforts since 1988, CREG sponsors the oldest river clean-up in Iowa, along with numerous other events, and strives to bring awareness to environmental events and movements across the Midwest.
The Cedar River Music Festival and Clean-up is a two-day, annual event focused on celebrating the Cedar River. The Music Festival takes place the second Friday of July at Gateway Park in Cedar Falls, Iowa, followed by Saturday on the water, floating a section of the Cedar River. This year's bands and clean-up routes will be announced soon. Canoes and supplies are provided.
Gather your cutoffs and old shoes, and canoe the river with your family this year. You’ll discover the beauty of the river and the many benefits of civic involvement.

History
Towards the end of the 80’s, local residents Leila George, Raldo Schneider and Shelley Sheehy grew increasingly concerned with the river becoming a garbage disposal for physical debris, and took social action as the course. The Cedar River Festival was incorporated in 1988, and supported events included a river clean-up followed by a music/arts festival.
The river was in dire need of a facelift, although there isn't a facial in the world that would cover up a floating dead cow (no joke, there is even a song written about it. Go see Raldo & Friends live some time). Still, volunteers supported the cause, pulling over 90 tons of tires, metal, and plastic from the river in the first three years. The foundation was well prepared. The festival continues; we hope to see you.
